Vary Pasta in Damansara Jaya

Itโ€™s not only Very Pasta, but itโ€™s Vary Pasta.

Often, we would pass by this place but never ventured inside. Once, we even stopped outside to browse the menu, but our stomachs were craving for something Asian.

Today, we finally had lunch at Vary Pasta in Damansara Jaya

How to get to Vary Pasta

Vary Pasta is quietly hidden at the corner along Jalan SS 22/23. If you missed it, itโ€™s just next to Five Fingers | Vegetarian Cafe Damansara Jaya and few doors down from Restaurant Kampung Seafood Parit Jawa.

If youโ€™re driving, you can park on the street parking around or in Atria Shopping Gallery. Thereโ€™s ample parking space in the basement and upper levels of the mall.

Alternatively, you can always Grab to the East Entrance of Atria and then walk up the road to Vary Pasta.

Vary Pasta

From the name, it sounds very much like an Italian restaurant. 

Once inside, the decor gives off a very mid-Western and Italian vibe. Like you see in the movies, it has a feeling of nostalgia and oldies vibe.

Menu and Food

Looking at the menu, theyโ€™ve an interesting and unique food recommendations. This is not your usual Western food restaurant. 

If youโ€™re craving for meat, thereโ€™s Varyโ€™s Recommendation: mix sausage platter, pork gammon steak, roasted pork knuckle, and pork meat loaf. If you want some seafood to go with your meat, thereโ€™s the mix grilled platter (chicken, pork, lamb, sausage, prawns, and mussel).

If you want something European, theyโ€™ve German pork sausages and Paella. The German pork sausages are cooked and served in different styles. The Paella, you can have it with chicken mushroom, pork mushroom, or seafood.

And as the name suggests, they also have pasta in various sauces and cooked in variety of styles. The pastas are cooked in garlic sauce, tomato sauce, or creamy and cheesy sauce. If you donโ€™t want to eat with meat, thereโ€™s also vegetarian pasta. 

Instead, we chose our food from the set lunch menu. After choosing the main dish, you can choose the sides and drinks. The side is either soup of the day or salad. The drink is either ice lemon tea or tea (hot or cold).

That day, the soup of the day was potato soup.

We had grilled chicken chop served with spaghetti and fries, and pan-seared salmon fillet with butter rice.

CC in BB: Capitol Cafe in Bukit Bintang

Last month, we were at Halab Gate Shawarma (link here). Over the weekend, just across the main road, Jalan Sultan Ismail, we were at Capitol Cafe.ย 

In a lane behind Damascus Bukit Bintang and WOLO Kuala Lumpur is the Capitol Cafe.

How to get there

The cafe is just a stone’s throw away from the Bukit Bintang MRT and monorail stations. 

If youโ€™re taking the MRT, alight at Bukit Bintang station and head towards Entrance E. Then u-turn and then turn right towards Jalan Sultan Ismail. Then turn right towards the lane just before Maybank Bukit Bintang.  

If youโ€™re taking the monorail, alight at Bukit Bintang station, cross the Bukit Bintang Crossing and walk up along Jalan Sultan Ismail. Then turn right towards the lane just before Maybank Bukit Bintang.  

Capitol Cafe

Capitol Cafe has a cozy and inviting interior design that’s perfect for a casual meal or a catch-up with friends. The cafe has a rustic vibe, with wooden tables and chairs, exposed brick walls, and vintage decorations. The ambiance is relaxed and laid-back, making it a great spot to unwind after a long day.

Capitol Cafe’s menu is a fusion of Western and Asian cuisine. One of the must-try dishes at Capitol Cafe is their signature nasi lemak.ย You can browse and download their menu here.

We had their Nasi Ayam Penyet, Hainanese Chicken Chop with Boiled Egg, HoGaSai Ping, and many others for lunch.

The nasi lemak was not the usual nasi lemak with ayam goreng. This nasi lemak is with ayam penyet. The ayam penyet is topped with breaded crusts.

As my friend quoted, โ€œIโ€™ve never had Hainanese chicken chop with boiled egg.โ€ It is a new and good addition with boiled egg in the dish. The chicken chop sauce has an added eggy taste and protein.

Mix iced milo and iced coffee, and you get HoGaSai Ping.

Hainan Village Malayan Kopitiam in Megah Rise Mall

For frequent shoppers and diners in Taman Megah, of course Hainan Joy Cafe | Restoran Hainan Joy is no stranger. But just recently, another new โ€œHainan-themedโ€ restaurant just opened itโ€™s doors in SS24 Taman Megah.

Letโ€™s welcome Hainan Village Malayan Kopitiam (Petaling Jaya). 

How to get there

Hainan Village is located in the newly opened mall – Megah Rise – in SS24 Taman Megah.

If youโ€™re driving along Jalan SS 24/10 and Jalan SS 24/11, it is not hard to miss Hainan Village from outside.

It it a corner restaurant located on the ground floor at the north entrance of Megah Rise. It is split into 2 lots across each other.

Hainan Village Malayan Kopitiam

On Google, it describes itself as:

“Honoured as the “First Hainanese Vegetarian Kopitiam in Malaysia” by the Malaysia Book of Records in February 2022, Hainan Village Kopitiam preserves the love for the animals and the passion to share good, meat-free Hainanese food with everyone in Malaysia, regardless of faith or race. By fusing traditional taste of Kampung and modern cooking styles, complemented with spice-filled sauces, each and every dish served at Hainan Village Kopitiam is healthy, hearty and most importantly โ€“ absolutely delicious.”

From the outset, it looked like any other kopitiam in the mall. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that it was a kopitiam that served vegetarian food.

We ordered the below for our lunch.

Signature Hainan Roasted VChicken Rice

Looking for a vegetarian version of chicken rice, we had the Signature Hainan Roasted VChicken Rice. It is a delicious and satisfying meal that is also perfect for vegetarians and meat-lovers alike. The V stands for Vegetarian. The โ€œvegetarian chickenโ€ was beancurd. 

Signature Nasi Lemak With Rendang VMutton

Like any other nasi lemak, it had the sambal, ikan bilis (anchovies), kacang (peanuts), cucumber, egg, and nasi lemak. Whatโ€™s different was the vegetarian mutton which, well, tasted like mutton and had potatoes.
